Bungie has said it’s creating a new engine for its incoming Actvision project.

Speaking in a Develop interview, Bungie communications manager Brain Jarrard said the company is against the idea of using the same tech for its future projects.

“I think it goes hand-in-hand with our independent spirit,” he said. “Just like we don’t want to develop a game off someone else’s IP, we want to push our own technology in the same way. That’s going to be our position for the foreseeable future.”

Jarrard said development on the engine was already underway: “Yeah, [the new engine is] actually in development, so I would say it’s in a stage where, technically we’re still at the end of a pre-production mode.”

He went on to state that “full weight” of the studio was now on their unannounced title for Activision since Halo: Reach is complete.

No details have been released on the Activision game at all as yet. The ten-year tie-in was announced in April of this year.

Bungie has lifted the lid on its Activision-published cross-platform game for the first time ever - revealing what appears to be a new logo.

The final few minutes of new (amazing), hour-long documentary O Brave New World discusses the Activision project in-depth.

But as we know you're all busy peeps, we've sliced the section out for you to check out below. The logo comes right near the end - complete with dramatic music.

Intriguingly, we're told that the project will "at some point" become "more the fans' than [Bungie's] and that it will "take a life of its own".

It will also "reach players in ways we haven't before". Could we be in MMO territory here?

"I want the fans to know that we did Halo because we wanted to do Halo, and we did ODST because we wanted to do ODST, and we did Reach because we wanted to do Reach," says Martin O'Donnell Audio director. "But now we want to do something brand new. Now we want to do something different."

Bungie was previously owned by Microsoft, but split with the company back in 2007 to become independent.

The firm signed an exclusive deal with Activision in April last year.

Huh, Wo is denn der Rest vom Thread hin? Ich weiss noch ganz genau das hier mehr als nur 2 Posts vorlagen... Man könnte glatt meinen hier wurde an der Forenstruktur rumgefuscht, mit bösen Folgen prof.gif

Warum muss jedes 3rd Party Game bitte auf Teufel komm raus für die Wii U umgesetzt werden? Toll, die Platform ist auf PS360-Niveau, und jetzt? Das Game wird zwar ein Teen Rating haben und technisch scheints wohl, was den ersten Teil angeht ,auch in die Möglichkeiten der Wii U zu fallen, was aber noch lang nicht heisst das es somit auch auf die Platform passt, speziell im Online-Sektor wo Nintendo eh erst mal grundlegend zeigen muss das sie überhaupt das Zeug haben oder so gesehen "würdig" sind so einen Titel zu unterstützen.

Was wenn sie noch keine Devkits haben? Keine internen Einblicke in Nintendos Onlinestruktur? Keine Lust und Rescourcen überhaupt für Nintendo zu entwickeln und jetzt schon alles im vorraus einzuplanen? Hier wurden zwar einige Informationen in den Akten aufgedeckt aber lass uns erst einmal abwarten bis sie Destiny ankündigen und später releasen, danach lassen sich die Puzzlestücke zwecks des wieso und warum viel einfacher zusammstecken.

Das Agreement stammt aus 2010 - da wusste noch niemand was von einer WiiU (außer Nintendo und Pachter ugly.gif). Don't shit your pants.

Ich hoffe, dass trotzdem eine vernünftige Einspielerkomponente enthalten ist.

Wäre schade, wenn einer der letzten guten Shooter-Entwickler ein reines Online-Spiel macht, aber es klingt doch leider sehr danach.

Bungie may be using DemonWare, the subsidiary of Activision-Blizzard which specializes in online software and services for videogames, for its next game, presumably titled Destiny. According to a DemonWare blog post, which has been removed, the game “is still quite like Halo” and the firm has been involved with Destiny since the early stages of the project.


The information contained within the blog post, dug up by Superannuation, was posted by a senior DemonWare employee which attended Bungie Day back in July.

According to the employee, during Bungie Day, attendees were treated to “presentations covering everything from game story, factions, art, engineering, tool chain, graphics, audio, player investment mechanisms, player progression, UI, and web and mobile apps.”

Some of the presentations contained video footage such as “a live scene walk through demonstrating lots of atmospherics, huge amounts of trees and foliage (SpeedTree), particle effects, dynamic lighting and dynamic time of day ending in a sun set.”

Once the presentation ended, Demonware employees were given hands-on time with Destiny, which the poster went on to describe.

“This is not a dedicated server game, but there is some simulation and coordination running in their server infrastructure. The game was up and down a lot, playing in a team of three, we did manage to experience entering a zone to find other players already taking on the bad guys, it’s cooperative so we helped out (mostly [name removed], I just died) before both groups went their separate ways. Which is a pretty cool experience, making you feel you are part of a much larger populated world.

“At the end of the day I was excited about the game, I like the feel of being in a large world with different destinations and the interactions along the way. It actually brought back a sense of exploration I recall from playing [Elite] many years ago, although there was no opportunity to shoot aliens in the face in Elite. I’m not fully sold on the appeal of being able to change the color of a weapon, but I guess it works in China, and customization and individual identity is a big theme for the game.”


The DemonWare employee said the general consensus regarding Destiny was that it was “still quite like Halo” and “there is a lot of work still to be done.”

He even mentioned that the project’s codename had changed from “Tiger” to “Destiny,” which is what the game is referred to at present.

A job opening for senior online systems programmer for Destiny appeared online, and it also mentioned PS3 experience as a preference, leading one to believe the game could be released on PS3 – which isn’t a stretch in the slightest.

The contract between Bungie and Activision, which was leaked online back in May, has the first game in the franchise slated for release next year.

Hoffe, es gibt eine vernünftige Einspielerkomponente. Bungie gehört ja zu den letzten Entwicklern gescheiter Ego-Shooter - damit meine ich welche, die sich nicht wie Moorhuhn mit Turban spielen.

Activision and Bungie will be lifting an official embargo on Destiny later today, but IGN has accidentally uploaded a video early containing official concept art and details. It gives some insight as to how the game plays, and practically confirms next-gen releases alongside PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Wäre schon interessant wenn jemand in den ersten Interviews Bungie fragen könnte warum die Wii U nicht mit in den Plänen für derzeitige Konsolenfassungen neben PS360 eingeplant wurde, nur damit wir das so früh wie möglich abhaken könn. Kann mir schon vorstellen warum, aber anscheinend brauchen einige Nintendo Fans immer tiefgründigere Erklärungen für warum und weshalb und wieso überhaupt, statt das übliche "lol, Nintendo?".
